My last blog discussed basketball, and the one before discussed football, but now I would like to talk about America's pasttime, and a fun game called baseball. This has always been an American sport, but now that it is internationally played, things like the Little League world series, and even the MLB World Series has many international influences on the games, both as players and teams for the little leaguers. Baseball is a fun sport, that should be played outside. The important equipment for baseball includes: a glove, baseballs, a bat, helmet, bases, a protective cup, and 9 players to play on defense, while 1 player bats.
(At this point I would have the kids line up at the positions and I would name them off. This might need to be done on multiple days, until the kids have it memorized about the positions. Pitcher throws the ball to the Catcher. The fielding positions include First base, Second Base, Short Stop, Third Base, Left and Right Outfield, and Center Outfield (referred to as Centerfield).
Now to explain the hitting system of baseball. You have to know about strikes and balls. If you are batting and the pitcher throws the ball (and you swing and miss) that is a strike. If you do not swing/or miss the ball while the ball is pitched inside the strike zone, then you are charged a strike. If a batter does not swing at a pitch that is outside the strike zone, then it is considered a ball. If you get 3 strikes you are out, each pitcher needs 3 outs to allow his team to bat again. If you get 4 balls, then you take a free walk to first base, and begin base running.
Here is where I would let the kids play catch in lines, then go on further from this point tomorrow, by going over the positions on the infield again, but this time I would hit ground and fly balls to the children in the field, and have them throw it to first base as if in a real game.
I feel that Football, Basketball and Baseball were all good choices for the 3 sports I discussed in this FINAL blog because they all have a team aspect to them that allows more than one person to play and succeed, and also they help keep the youth active and healthy. It is vital that they play the sports correctly, and understand everything about the sport. The most important thing is to teach the children, and let them have fun!

LRC FINAL BLOG 2 OF 3
My last blog explained the equipment and positions of football, and as I said before this is directed at elementary school children to learn how to play the games, and eventually know how to play them correctly too.
I would expect to teach the children that while the were in class, and maybe show them some examples of different players that they might now, like the local Quarterback or Running Back. After discussing those things, I would let the children play catch in lines, and do running drills.
For this blog I would like to discuss basketball's positions and game actions. The game of basketball involves alot of running, and everyone must be able to contribute in similar ways, but most importantly by playing their hardest and having fun! The positions in basketball include: Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward, and Center. All of these positions have vital roles and here is a brief summary of those. Point Guard, dribbles ball up court and does most of the handling. Shooting Guard, plays on the wings of the court, and does alot of shooting and passing. Small Forward, similar to shooting guard, but sometimes plays closer to basket. Power Forward, plays close to the basket (In the Lane), and rebounds alot. Center, takes the jump ball, gets alot of rebounds, blocks, and is sometimes a main offensive shooter (EX: SHAQ).
Some of the actions I just mentioned are called: Assist, Rebound, Shot, Pass, Steal, Block, and Slide. An assist occurs when one passes the ball to a teammate and that other player scores, the passer gains an assist in this case. A rebound occurs when a person gets the ball after a missed shot. A Shot is when someone throws the ball near the basket trying to score. A Pass is when someone throws the ball to another teammate. When someone takes the ball away while playing defense it is called a steal. When someone slaps the ball out of the air while someone is shooting it is called a block, and a slide is when a person dives on the ground after the basketball, usually on a loose ball or turnover.
All of these actions can be seen in any basketball game, at any level. After discussing this with the class, I would let them shoot layups in 2 lines to work on their form and get them warmed up before they did more running, and scrimmage drills.

LRC FINAL BLOG 1 OF 3
My final is going to incorporate a powerpoint, excel spreahseet, 3 blog entries, a word document guide, all of these things will be available at---> http://u.arizona.edu/~jyoken/ on 12/10/2008.
As I have stated in my guide and other sections, this presentation is one that would be given to a target audience of elementary schoolers, around the grades 1-3. The main idea of all the resources used is to teach the kids all about sports. The rules, different types, and other useful things regarding sports.
This blog is the 1st of 3 blogs for my Final, and I would like to discuss Football
It is very imporant to use all of the following equipment while playing football:
Helmet, Shoulder pads, Knee pads, Hip pads, Tailbone pads, thigh pads, Inner Helmet pads, and a Protective cup.
If one is learning how to play football it is essential to use all of the protection possible to make sure noone gets hurt.
The positions of football are very diverse, but they all are important for different things, the following are the names of the general positions for football: Quarterback, Running Back, Fullback, Tight End, Wide Receiver, Offensive Line (Tackles, Guards, and Center), Defensive Line, Linebackers (strong, weak, middle), Safetys, Cornerbacks, Kickers, Special Teams.
All of the positions are important to the sport, and everyone must play their best and together because football requires alot of teamwork.

Lets Talk Sports_Sunday 10/19
The Red Sox lost tonight in a game 7 matchup against the Rays in Tampa. The Rays pitcher Garza had a heck of a game, and the Red Sox offense fell just short. The Red Sox once again left RISP and men on base. Theyve been doing this every game so far.
The Dallas Cowboys sat Tony Romo today in their game against the Rams, and it likely cost them the game. They lost 34-14, and the Rams running back Stephen Jackson had his biggest game in two years, with over 100 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Marion Barber had 100 yards and 1 touchdown, but backup quarterback Brad Johnson looked like he is 100 years old. New wideout Roy Williams did basically nothing all game, and until Romo gets back I dont think this team has one player motivated to win, other then Demarcus Ware, who has an ongoing sack streak that is an NFL record.
The Raiders today beat Brett Favre and the Jets in an overtime game that was full of soft defenses and mediocre offenses. Sebastian Janakowski, the Raiders Kicker, made a 57 yard field goal in overtime to win the game. This marks the longest overtime kick ever, a bright spot on a decade of darkness for the raiders.
Since this is a technology related LRC class i will discuss the integration of sports and technology in this next portion called...
SPORTS TECHNOLOGY BIT: The use of camera review, or the "coach's challenge" in the NFL is a great use of technology during the game. This allows close plays, and especially close and important ones, to be reviewed by officials from a booth in the stadium, and by the lead official on the field. This makes the game slow down a little, but generally ends up in all plays being accurately called, and thus the games fairness is increased. The real result of the play will be called either on the field, or with conclusive video evidence viewed by the referees.
Another use of technology in football is in the helmets of the captains on the field. They have headsets in there which allows them to recieve plays from their coaches on the sideline. This facilitates the players jobs, and allows them to secretively discuss plays oppose to having to use hand signals (that can be easily viewed by the opponents) or having different player personnel have to switch every play and come into the game after being told the play from the coach.
Technology is everywhere...in the classroom, on the field, and outside of both as well. It is important to understand that as technology advances, so will mankind. The use of tech-related devices, in my opinion, is almost always good, and especially in the cases stated above related to football.
Until next time, take care.

Last Night was nothing short of phenomenal. The Red Sox were down 7 runs in the 7th inning, and came back to win. Lets remember when they were down in the series 3-0 in 2004 to the Yankees and came back to win the world series (infamously breaking the 'curse'_wish the cubs could do the same..) and also last year when they were down 3-1 in the series against the Indians, and they once again persevered to win their second title in 4 years. I think that this series, now at 3-2, is much more manageable than the past ones against Jeter and Sabbathia. The main problem is if BJ Upton (24 years old, 6 postseason HRS), and Evan Longoria (21 years old, 6 postseason HRS), continue to make everyone realize that the league is becoming younger, but still as powerful. I think the Red Sox will come back and win this series, and win the next game IN TAMPA BAY. The Phillies V Red Sox will be a fun world series, but I don't want to make any predictions about it quite yet...
In another Sports story, the Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo has a broken pinkie, but now (after a phone call with BRETT FAVRE??) he may play, and has continued to practice. I think backup Brad Johnson will start, but I wouldn't doubt it that if they got into trouble (not likely against the St Louis RAMS_although they beat Washington last week) they may go to Romo.
I currently play in a Yahoo fantasy football league (8 teams)
HOT PICKS: I would recommend starting these fantasy football players this week.
QB Matt Schaub_HOU
QB Jay Cutler_DEN
RB Chris Johnson_TEN
WR Andre Johnson_TEN
WR Terrell Owens_DAL
These are just a few player i think should be dominant this week. This is the first week that i have made HOT PICKS for fantasy football, but look to continue doing this in the future.
If anyone wants to talk sports please leave a comment.
Until next time, take care.
